What are dental crowns?
A dental crown is a cap used to restore or enhance a tooth. It can be made from all-metal, ceramic-on-metal, or all-ceramic materials, chosen based on the crown's location. Front teeth typically use all-ceramic crowns for a natural look, while ceramic-on-metal crowns offer both durability and a natural appearance.
What are dental bridges?
A dental bridge replaces a missing tooth without dentures or surgery. It consists of a new tooth supported by two crowns on adjacent teeth, made from ceramic or porcelain to blend with surrounding teeth. Dr. Abrams ensures that the bridge looks and feels natural.
Before the Procedure
We recommend whitening your teeth before getting dental crowns or bridges. Since these materials are stain-resistant, whitening afterward won't affect them. Whitening first ensures that your crowns or bridges match your newly whitened teeth.
We recommend taking a day or two off work for the procedure to manage any sensitivity and avoid disrupting your schedule.
Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges Process
For natural-looking dental crowns and bridges, it's best to work with an experienced cosmetic dentist. At Elliott.N.Abrams D.D.S, we ensure a natural appearance and patient comfort, often using sedation dentistry. The process involves taking impressions of your teeth to create the crown or bridge in a dental lab.
To place a dental crown, Elliott.N.Abrams D.D.S prepares the tooth by removing some enamel to ensure a proper fit. A temporary crown is then applied with removable glue while the permanent crown is made in the lab. The temporary crown, worn for about two weeks, requires careful eating and brushing to avoid dislodging it.
Once the dental restoratives are ready, patients return to have temporary crowns removed and permanent ones bonded in place. For crowns, the cap is secured with dental bonding. For bridges, crowns are placed on adjacent teeth to support a new tooth, creating a natural-looking and functional replacement.

After the Procedure
After preparing your teeth for restoratives, you might experience some sensitivity. A temporary crown will be used while the permanent one is made. Sedation dentistry will ensure comfort during the procedure, and you can manage any post-procedure discomfort with oral pain medication for a few days.
Crowns protect and restore damaged teeth, allowing you to eat, drink, and speak comfortably. Bridges provide a secure replacement for missing teeth, ideal for active lifestyles.
